Did YOU know that you can make your own butter in as little as 15 minutes?
Now you do! You're welcome :)
I'm constantly trying to figure out a way to replicate my favourite store-bought items. I would much rather make something myself, as opposed to eating a bunch of fake stuff that tastes good and lasts a long time in my fridge, only because of the preservatives that are packed into the product.
I also feel like I am winning in life when I successfully master making something delicious right here in my own kitchen. So when I found this idea through happyhooligans.ca, I knew today was going to be a good day!
Making homemade butter is almost TOO easy, I swear.
Here is what you need...

That's it! A mason jar (or and glass jar with a lid really), and some cream.
Told you it was easy.
Now before you get too excited, there is one semi-difficult part of making butter.
After you get your cream in a glass jar, the next step is to... SHAKE IT LIKE A POLAROID PICTURE!
You are going to have to shake your jar... and then shake some more, and more, and more and more.... you get the idea. All in all, I think I shook my jar for a total of about 12 minutes. Talk about working for your food!
Which is great, because I didn't feel as guilty when I ate 3 large pieces of crusty bread smothered in my delicious butter after I was finished... winning!
So sit back and relax, and watch as your delicious creation takes shape.
After about 6 minutes, take a peek at your jar and you should find a big beautiful pile of whip cream.
Don't be shy, dip your finger in there and have a taste!
Put your lid back on and keep on shaking.
After another couple minutes, your whipped cream will begin to separate and become liquidy again as the buttermilk separates from the butter. It will look something like this -

Re-lid your jar - you're almost there!
Another couple minutes of shaking and you will have a solid mound of delicious butter.
Drain out the buttermilk liquid (you can keep this for future baking if you prefer, I did), and rinse your butter under cold water while gently kneading to get rid of any excess liquid.
You will end up with something like this -

Feel free to add in some fresh herbs if you wish. I added a dash of salt for flavour.
And VOILA! You have just made your very own batch of homemade butter!!!
Let me tell you, it's worth every minute of shaking.. this stuff is seriously good.
Since there are no preservatives your butter will not keep very long.
It should be okay for a couple of days in the fridge, so don't skimp out on your portions.
What are you waiting for? Endulge in your homemade creation, and enjoy every bite!
Ingredients
1 - 237ml carton of 35 % m.f. cream (You can use a larger carton if you want more butter, I ended up with about half a cup. Just make sure to use the approtpriate size of jar)
A glass jar with a lid
Instructions
1. Fill your jar half way with cream
2. Put the lid on and start shaking!
3. After about 6 minutes, check your jar. If you have whipped cream, you are on the right track
4. Continue shaking until the butter separates from the buttermilk (Roughly 12 minutes in total)
5. Drain the buttermilk (save for future baking if desired) and rinse butter under cold water while kneading to get rid of any extra liquid
6. Add in fresh herbs or salt (optional)
7. Store butter in the fridge
